Keeping Families Together: Spanky & Lillie

In 2013, Mrs. Alcantar was struggling to take care of her family, to the point that the even her own health was at risk. Mrs. Alcantar lives in Central Texas with her husband, their adult son, who has an intellectual disability, and their two Yorkie mixes, Spanky and Lillie. The Alcantar family became Meals on Wheels Central Texas (MOWCTX) clients in 2013, receiving daily hot, nutritious lunches, relieving a great deal of stress from Mrs. Alcantar. Soon afterwards, Spanky and Lillie were enrolled into the MOWCTX PALS (Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors) program and began receiving not only a monthly delivery of dog food.

Through the LEAP program, TVMF’s partnership with PALS, Spanky and Lillie have also received annual veterinary care, including flea and heartworm preventatives. These two dogs are truly the light of this family’s life, providing much needed laughter and companionship.  We are proud to have served this family for the last 7 years and helped keep these two happy and health!
