TVMF PALS
Did you know that approximately 50% of Meals on Wheels (MOW) clients live alone? For many homebound clients, their pets are their primary companions, providing them with unconditional love and support. However, many MOW clients are unable to afford regular veterinary care for their pets. Through the TVMF PALS (Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors) program, the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF) is partnering with MOW to provide veterinary care free of charge to these pets, ensuring they will remain happy, healthy and in their homes for as long as possible. The TVMF PALS program currently operates in several major cities in Texas, including Austin, Dallas, Bryan/College Station, and Houston, and is continuing to expand throughout the state.
What we do
Each pet enrolled in the TVMF PALS program receives:
- An annual exam
- 1 year supply of flea & heartworm preventative
- Necessary vaccines
- Other services, including dentals, mass removals, and antibiotics, as needed
All of these services are provided at NO cost to the client.
How it works
TVMF partners with Meals on Wheels to enroll eligible pets in the TVMF PALS program. When it is time for their exam, a transport volunteer picks the pet up from the client’s home and takes it to the veterinarian. The veterinarian examines the pet and orders any necessary diagnostics. The volunteer returns the animal to the client’s home, along with their preventatives and any other instructions from the veterinarians.
